Today we have off school due to snow. I didnt get to take a picture of anything but i did make a awesome snowman.

Guns Germs and Steel. 1-25-11
Today in class we started our first day of Western Civilization. We made a new blog( this one) to use for our Western Civ class then we watched a movie called Guns Germs and Steel.
The movie Guns Germs ans Steel is about why some countries are more successful than others and can easily conquer countries like Europe did to the Americas in their exploration time when they sailed all over the world. As the title implies guns, germs, and steel were contributing factors but ill get to that later. Jared Diamond is the main researcher in the video and studies all about this kinds stuff( how civilizations conquer weaker ones easier). He also likes to study birds on the side. The movie takes us to Papa New Guinea where Jared is talking to some locals. He brings up how about 30 years ago why white men always have so much cargo on them and the natives so little. This made Diamond think about the whole thing why some civilizations are so ahead and others so behind. He came up with the answer that it was because some places got lucky and others didnt. For example Europe was lucky enough to be in an area that could develop new technologies and advance while places like Papa New Guinea didnt. This is his idea on it so far. We havent watched a lot of the movie yet.
